I'm Still Here

OK, I know it's been a long time since I posted, but I am still here. Things have just been swamped for a long while now. Most recently I returned from another run with ESPN covering the NBA Finals in Dallas and Miami. A whole lot of fun, a lot of long hours, little sleep and way too much heat!

I've also been doing the usual work for CMD and Nike, including a 2 week marathon for Nike Golf. That with the occasional project on my personal studio has kept me very busy.

So much done, so little to describe without boring you. Just remember - I am still here!

Slingshot Kiteboarding Commercial Completed

Here's something new. I just completed a commercial for Slingshot Kiteboarding out of Hood River, Oregon. This one was a lot of fun and it really makes me want to get out and ride.

The piece was done entirely in "Final Cut", except for the end graphic build done in Motion, and the music was composed in GarageBand by yours truly. Remember, I'm an editor, not a musician...Take a look at the commercial.

Catching up

OK, so it's been a long, long time since I updated what's been going on. It's been really busy the past few months and I've barely had time to come up for air.

Mainly, I've been doing a lot of work for CMD, which means a lot of projects for Intel, and some HP & Jeld-Wen. I recently completed editing a pair of remarkable stories that are part of an anti-Meth campaign funded by Jeld-Wen. The two documentary pieces turned out really well, and I'm very proud of the work I was able to do on them. I hope to have copies available on-line soon.

I also had the opportunity to work for ESPN Sportscenter covering the NBA Finals in San Antonio. That was a ton of fun and a great change of pace and scenery (although I could have done without the heat). I hope to continue working with ESPN in the future, even more so now that hockey is back!

Another fun project was cutting a trailer for an independent film being produced here in Portland, Freedom State. The film was shot in DVCProHD with the Panasonic VariCam, and I was able to capture the footage via Firewire directly into Final Cut Pro without any additional hardware. Quite exciting to be able to work in HD without taking out a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th mortgage on the house. The trailer can be seen at the official site for the film.

That's the latest news for now. A lot has been going on, and it sure looks like the production slump in Portland is over.

Stay tuned for more news...

Israel Tennis Center

Recently completed a video tribute of Bill & Sandra Lippy, 2 of the key fundraisers for the Israel Tennis Centers. A documentary style piece, the video provides a history of the centers as well as a look at these two amazing, hardworking people.

See the show here. Be patient, it's a large file (60 mb).

Editing an Award Winner

A Cine Golden Eagle was awarded to CMD’s film and video department for “Street Photographer,” a project for client Hewlett-Packard’s Imaging and Printing division. The video features Joel Meyerowitz, the only photographer officially allowed to create images of Ground Zero in New York City after 9/11. Meyerowitz later donated the photos to New York City and the National Archives.

The video was edited by Greg Day of Dog Day Editing. Greg Day is also a two-time Emmy nominee for his work on "Bill Nye the Science Guy" and has edited numerous documentaries for PBS as well as many corporate productions for clients including Nike, Intel, and Microsoft.

Renowned for the Golden Eagles it awards for excellence in documentary and other informational film and video production, CINE will celebrate its first half-century in 2007. CINE recognizes and fosters the highest quality of non-theatrical film and video production through its semi-annual competitions.
